Last night we started our summer recording in earnest. Currently we are doing live takes in Tim’s basement, and have gotten off to a good start with our engineering. It’s a pretty simple setup with some lo-fi equipment, but it should capture the energy of our playing very well. Once Tim records the lead vocals, we’ll get the tracks from his Korg multitrack into my mixing software, and see where the quality is at, both with the fidelity and performance. We may continue in the lo-fi vein if it works, but we’ll do some higher end treatments and overdubs if we need to. We’d like to keep the process fast and agile, but striking a balance with quality, time, and budget.
